2k-1k-500m-500m

27 August, 2010

On Wednesday, I took these babies out for a spin:

Saucony Fastwitch 4: a crappy name (Fast witch? Am I supposed to cackle?) but innovative design and go-faster tiger stripes make for a smooth ride.

I think more running shoes need big-cat print overlays, it definitely adds to the illusion of speed. And they’re running shoes. Who doesn’t pretend to be a tiger running through the jungle now and then?

They actually felt very responsive and light (which they are). Saucony has reduced the weight of the midsole by essentially punching deep grooves all the way through (or is this for flexibility?), leaving just the insole and a fine mesh between the sole of your foot and the road in places. Of course, this means there is nothing to keep puddles out, but there never is much for that anyway and it also lets sweat evaporate more quickly, so this is a good thing, in my book.

The toebox feels a little roomier than either the Mizuno Wave Musha or the Adidas adiZero Mana — this was especially noticeable when taking sharp corners — but presumably time and the course of miles will allow the shoe to better mould to my foot.

Wednesday: 12.5km
Thursday: 7km. [2km (6:57), 1km (3:15), 500m (1:28), 500m (1:26) Full recoveries, more or less.]
