6×300, 4×400

I don’t consider myself a middle-distance runner, but again this evening I ran these intervals as though I’m training for a middle distance event. Except that I’m not — it justs feels good to run fast at the moment, to finish the workout spent.

(47 seconds, 46, 45, 46, 46, 45), (70 seconds, 69, 69, 64).

That last 400m, believe it or not, is the fastest I’ve recorded for that distance! I’m coming around to the idea of track races.

Over the next couple of weeks I will try to do workouts which are more aligned with half-marathon preparation. I’m effectively trying to extend my racing season after backing off a little for a couple of weeks in May and use the Scotiabank as a benchmark assessment of my endurance fitness, whereas the Longest Day 5k will hopefully be purely a fun race. Actually, who am I kidding, the half will be pure fun too. Perhaps my training regime could be a little more focussed, but to be honest I’m just enjoying the running and hoping not to get injured anytime soon.

Yesterday: ~11k (Science World, around False Creek, finishing at 6th Ave).

Today: ~7k (total).
